International competition, Artist and Director
Her work explores the dialectic between history and memory, questioning regimes of visibility, with particular emphasis on the archive. Among her films are Still Life (2005), 48 (2009, Grand Prix Cinéma du Réel and FIPRESCI Prize), Obscure Light (2017), Fordlandia Malaise (2019), and Journey to the Sun (2021, co-directed with Ansgar Schaefer). Her works have been presented at film festivals and art institutions, including Berlinale, Visions du Réel, MoMA (NY), and Documenta (Kassel–Athens, Keimena's film program).
In 2025, she was a Guest of Honor at IDFA, where she premiered her most recent film, Fordlandia Panacea.
She holds a PhD in Fine Arts, Audiovisual (FBA-UL), a Master's degree in Aesthetics and Philosophy of Art (FL-UL), and a Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts, Painting (ESBAL). She completed a course in Cinema at ESTC and the Atelier Documentaire at La Fémis (Paris). She studied music at She teaches at the National Conservatory and the Hot Club of Portugal. She is a professor at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon.
